Compassion
God, filled with love and compassion, reached down from heaven, and performed the most awesome act of love, compassion and sacrifice in order to save you and me! The day you received Him into your heart, He shed His love and compassion in your heart; will you let the ministry of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, flow out of you to change the lives of people around you?
Compassion is the God-given capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else’s skin - it is feeling, acting and showing God’s love to all around you - whether they deserve it or not. Recently, on an airplane we were again humbled by the difference small acts of compassion can make. A very ill woman, (supposedly suffering from a progressed form of Aids) sat across the isle from us. Nobody wanted to sit next to her and even the personnel handled her with fear and rejection. During take-off her bottle of water fell; Johan promptly released his safety belt and went to pick it up for her. Later, while having dinner, he gave her his chocolate we received for dessert, seeing that she was so ill and weak she could not eat anything else except chocolate. During the flight we prayed for her and when leaving the plane in a wheelchair Johan again assisted her in getting into the wheelchair. The look of gratitude in her eyes when she looked at us, greeted us and thanked us, made us want to weep on her behalf.
My brother and sister in Christ, do not let the hearts of your friend or people crossing your path ache for a word of appreciation or sympathy and love - the time is short! Let the Jesus in your heart flow out!
Ask the Lord today to send at least 3 people whom you can bless with a compassionate act, word, or touch across your path this week. Be sensitive and obedient and feel your Father’s smile and blessing.
